LANGUAGE

The University of Salford, Manchester are offering a range of language courses to anyone who wishes to develop their language in a friendly, supportive environment.

Each course will be taught over a 22 week period at our Peel Park campus, just five minutes from Manchester city centre.

For as little as £300.00 you can learn a new language with high quality tuition.

Our courses cater to a range of levels and will start in September 2020.
We are currently offering the following courses:

/  Learn Arabic - Beginner to Upper Intermediate Arabic
/  Learn British Sign Language (BSL)
/  Learn French - Beginner to Upper Intermediate French
/  Learn German - Beginner to Upper Intermediate German

/  Learn Italian - Beginner to Upper Intermediate Italian
/  Learn Japanese - Beginner to Upper Intermediate Japanese
/  Learn Mandarin Chinese - Beginner to Upper Intermediate
/  Learn Spanish - Beginner to Upper Intermediate Spanish

STARTING POINT

Our courses range from beginner to B1 standard as per the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Where you start will depend on what experience you already have of learning your chosen language. Generally, even if you last studied the language a long time ago, you should join the Stage that matches any qualifications you have.
Our practical courses aim to increase your confidence when communicating in a social context or whilst traveling abroad.

Our lower stage courses will help you in everyday situations such as shopping, travelling and introducing yourself, together with learning the alphabet, dates, and the time of day. The higher stages aim to develop your ability to employ your language skills more widely in a professional context.

Throughout the course there will be four formative assessments (just a little test, so no pressure!) to help you evaluate your progress. Taking part in the assessment is not compulsory, however, we strongly recommend that you do. You will also be eligible for a certificate that will indicate your language level in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, internationally recognised as an assessment of language proficiency.

WE ARE

PASSIONATE

All our language classes are centred around our students and have been designed to develop
practical language skills.

Each course will run from September to May with a choice of afternoon or early evening sessions available. Each week you will attend a two-hour class to help progress and consolidate your learning around the four core skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing.

You will learn with students and members of staff from the University. Together you will work towards achieving learning outcomes, gaining a range of transferable skills such as focused listening, team work and cultural appreciation.

You will also benefit from a large range of online resources and materials through our virtual learning environment, Blackboard.

The CEFR can also provide guidance on what level you are currently at.

If you are unsure where you should start, we can arrange for you to discuss your experience
with one of our tutors, please email uwlp@salford.ac.uk

But don’t worry, correctly assessing your level and ensuring you are in the right class is something we’ll take care of once you start.
